Guidance guarantee recruitment drive raises hard questions

Jonathan Watts-Lay, Director, WEALTH at work, discusses the guidance guarantee with Professional Pensions saying people who work on the guidance guarantee must be knowledgeable about pensions. He is worried about the lower paid job offered by Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB).

Jonathan Watts-Lay states, “There are a number of issues with the job ad. What they have actually said is ‘some knowledge would also be an advantage’, which presents a question – you are paying someone £20,000; they have no pensions experience and could be talking to loads of people.”

However, he adds that if the right processes and training are put in place internally then it could work.

Jonathan Watts-Lay continues “If they get the handoff right internally and are trained for this lower level job, then maybe it will work. We need to recruit people that have technical knowledge but can relate to the general public,” he says. “To suggest you have one and can do without the other is nonsense, you need both.”
