Employees of some of the UK’s largest companies will enjoy windfalls from maturing SAYE schemes this year. Household names such as BT and ITV have seen share values rise sharply from the option price set in 2009, when many share prices were in the doldrums.

But that good fortune carries a potentially onerous capital gains tax (CGT) burden. It’s therefore vital to explain to employees how they can manage their windfall in the most tax-efficient way.
