Increase in demand for access to financial advice in the workplace

Jonathan Watts-Lay, Director, WEALTH at work comments on a new report which suggests that three-quarters of employees demand access to financial advice.  “This report helps to highlight the need for employers to provide guidance in the workplace and to ensure understanding amongst employees.  For those not in a pension already, auto-enrolment will be introduced later this year and the communication of this is extremely important in helping employees to understand why saving towards retirement is crucial.  Financial education will help to ensure that employees understand the importance of workplace pensions and also help to emphasise why opting out of auto-enrolment could be a mistake.  As well as communicating auto-enrolment effectively, financial education can also aid the understanding of the full workplace savings and benefits programme and allow an employee to make informed decisions.  This report emphasises that there is a growing need for financial education and suitable advice for all, this is particularly important for those  approaching retirement.”
